When you receive an error while accessing your SQL Server 2005/2008 databases from SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, please follow the below steps:

1) Login to the Management studio using your db username/password.
2) Select 'Databases' node from left hand side menu.
3) Go to View -> Object explorer details (or press F7 short cut key).
4) Right click on the column headers of the Object explorer window
    (Right hand side pane).
5) Un-check 'Collation'.
6) Refresh the 'Database' node on the left hand side pane and you should be able to see the databases.
